“Grow up and drink your coffee black.. Like an adult!”
I know the title may sound a little harsh, but I wanted to quote our awesome trainer, Duncan Poe, who is currently away at Navy Bootcamp!
Duncan said this when one of our rockstar clients asked, during a nutrition orientation, “what should I do about coffee creamer?”
Now, I know what some of you are thinking: “I CAN NOT drink black coffee!! There’s NO WAY.” Trust me, I was that person. I always drank my coffee with something added. Initially, it was cream & sugar or creamer. Then, when I found out how absolutely awful creamers are (which I’ll get to later), and I realized that decreasing my sugar intake would help me lose weight and feel better, I drank my coffee with just a little bit of cream or milk. Now I don’t do much dairy for digestive reasons, so I drink it black. It took time, but now I couldn’t imagine adding anything to my coffee!
Why drink black coffee?
It’s WAY better for you!
Black coffee is calorie and sugar free!! By drinking your coffee black, there are several important nutrients, including Vitamins B2, B3, B5, Magnesium, and Potassium. Not to mention, it can be your body’s single largest source of antioxidants and you can increase your metabolism by 11%.
Studies also show that coffee has also been proven to reduce the risk of several diseases such as heart disease, depression, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and several types of cancers!!
NONE of this applies to those who ruin their coffee by adding junk like creamers, cream and sugar!!! In fact, it actually reverses these effects and completely defeats the purpose of drinking coffee for the health benefits!
GET RID OF THE CREAMERS!!
Most coffee creamers are dairy-free, which means they’re not actually “creamers” at all! If they’re not actually creamers, what is in that stuff?? Food coloring, Corn Syrup, Partially hydrogenated oils, thickeners (whatever those are?!), and loads of sugar. Do you buy sugar-free?? Those artificial sweeteners are even worse!!
